Falconia
Falconia is the city Griffith dreamed of building since childhood — his obsession, his reason for being, the very thing for which he sacrificed the Band of the Hawk during the Eclipse. It is the ultimate realization of the White Hawk's dream: a kingdom of his own, built with his own hands, over which he reigns as absolute master.
The tragic irony is total. Falconia is built on the ruins of Wyndham, the capital of Midland, at the heart of a world devastated by the World Merge that Griffith himself triggered. The demons and creatures of the world of darkness that now populate the earth's surface make Falconia the only possible refuge for humanity — and Griffith its only protector.
The World Merge
The birth of Falconia is inseparable from the event that made it necessary: the World Merge. During the final battle between Griffith and the demon-emperor Ganishka transformed into a cosmic titan, Griffith uses Ganishka as a catalyst to merge the physical world and the world of darkness.
The result is an unprecedented geopolitical and existential catastrophe. The world's geography warps. Towers and structures from another world rise from the ground. Nightmare creatures — apostles, demons, spirits — now roam the roads and forests freely. Human civilization as it existed collapses within days.
Humanity, terrified, converges on the only place where the demons do not attack: Falconia, protected by Griffith and his new Band of the Hawk made of apostles. The man who caused the end of the world has become its savior. It is the perfect plan.
The irony of Falconia
Griffith caused the World Merge — and thus the demons ravaging the surface. Then he set himself up as the sole protector against those same demons. Humanity worships him without knowing he is the source of the problem.
Falconia is built on the blood of the Band of the Hawk, sacrificed during the Eclipse. Every stone of the city bears the weight of that betrayal. Griffith lives in the dream built on the corpses of his former friends.
For the humanity that takes refuge there, Falconia is a paradise. But a city surrounded by demons is not a town — it is a cage. Griffith is both the jailer and the guardian of all humanity.
Falconia is exactly what Griffith always wanted: a kingdom of his own, built with his hands, where his name is revered. The price was the destruction of the world. It is hard to say whether Griffith regrets it.
Griffith the King
In Falconia, Griffith is worshipped. For the vast majority of surviving humanity, he is a living god — the Hawk of Light foretold by the prophecies, the one who saved humanity from extinction. None of them knows his true face: the man who caused the catastrophe the better to cast himself as savior.
Only a few individuals — Guts, those who survived the Eclipse, the companions of Guts's group — know the truth. And in a world where Griffith controls everything, that truth has nowhere to go.
The final confrontation between Guts and Griffith is that of two irreconcilable visions of the world: one founded on sacrifice and domination, the other on resistance and humanity. Falconia is the symbol of Griffith's apparent victory — and the inevitable backdrop of the denouement.
